Asif Ali Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif also discuss the government’s resolve to strengthen the laborers’ welfare and rights.
As the world celebrated International Labour Day, the president and the prime minister of Pakistan issued separate messages on social media platforms to mark the occasion. President Zardari encouraged Pakistani employers to take on fair wage practices and ensure workers’ safety.
He also advised them to provide essential training and protective equipment to laborers working in dangerous environments. On the other hand, PM Shehbaz honored the workers for their service and sacrifices while fighting for their rights. He also said that people who work day and night bless our country, allowing our nation to flourish. They work for their families so they can feed them, not only that they are the major driving force behind Pakistan.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also said he would soon initiate the National Tripartite Labor Conference that will focus on the health and safety of laborers in Pakistan. Chairman of Senate Yusuf Raza Gilani said the government completely recognizes the significance of laborers and workers in the progress of Pakistan. He also said that the government is trying to improve the conditions and environment for workers by administering the Laborer’s laws.
Because of high inflation and a depressing economy workers do not seem enthusiastic about this day in Pakistan. A large number of laborers work in difficult and in some cases life-threatening conditions. The lack of safety nets results in accidents and even death. Due to pressure from international unions, the conditions have improved in the textile industry while other industries still lack safety. Today, various seminars, marches, and conferences will honor laborers.
