The WMO declared that Asia is warming up faster due to the impact of heat waves. Heat waves are becoming more severe over time. It is also said that Asia is heating up faster as compared to other regions of the world with temperatures lasting two degrees Celsius above average. Due to this change in temperature floods and storms are becoming common in this region.
According to a report the crucial indicators of climate change include increased surface temperature, glacier melting, and rise in sea level, and Asia remains at the top for the most catastrophic-hit region due to climate change.
Extremely high temperatures were recorded in western Siberia, central Asia, eastern China, and Japan. The precipitation in the Himalayas, Pakistan, and Afghanistan was below average in 2023. As carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases have raised the temperature around the world, the effect of these gases is very significant on the Glaciers.
The Glaciers are melting at a rapid rate causing rise in sea levels and floods in various regions which significantly affects Asia. Floods and storms also affect the lives of people and even result in the death of many people.
According to a report by the WMO floods were the major cause of death in 2023. WMO also said there is a need to improve the disaster-reducing services across Asia, to do this there is an urgent need to reduce the emission of harmful gases from different industries and the greenhouse. Now it is not an option but a necessity.
