Netanyahu’s government decided to shut down Al Jazeera in Israel as the channel continued to cover the GAZA conflicts. While the news director of Al Jazeera English News said they would take every legal action out there for their rights.
The cabinet made a so-called unanimous decision to shut down the office in Jerusalem and seize the equipment in the office. The confiscation of equipment stopped the broadcasting.
The order for the shutdown of Al Jazeera was initially valid for 45 days but it can be extended, which shows the clear signs of injustice towards the news channel. Many consider Israel’s action a criminal act because they are depriving people of access to information, which is a basic human right.
Israel’s government made this absurd decision of banning the broadcast channels on the basis of threats against their country. From the beginning of the Gaza conflict, Israel has bombed the news office in Palestine in which two members of Al Jazeera had died.
The people who are part of this network have suffered greatly due to Israeli attacks. The bureau chief of Al Jazeera in Gaza got wounded in an Israeli attack, his wife their two children, and their grandson were also killed back in October due to bombings. While his eldest son also got killed in an air strike in January this year.
Nagm said that this network has lost more than 90 workers in different attacks and he stressed that such news cannot be reported lightly.
In my opinion, the people who are trying to make the world know about what really is happening to the people of Gaza are suffering on the same level as Palestinians. The journalists, media workers, and doctors not only help others but also ensure that the righteous people understand how brutal Israel truly is, so they can raise their voices in support of the Palestinian’s and help relieve them of Israeli oppression.
