A meeting was held at CM’s house for the elimination of Polio. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah led the meeting that was organized to discuss the upcoming national immunization campaign set up for Monday in 25 districts.
Health Minister Dr Azra said, two polio cases were reported this year in Balochistan. While in Sindh samples were collected from all the districts, and poliovirus is found in the sewage of 11 districts. The CM was informed that 38,743 cases of denial were reported in February this year. It is also reported that over 9 million children under five years old were vaccinated until March 2024.
The chief minister was informed that the Campaign launched on Monday will provide oral vaccine to 8 million children below five years of age.
Over six hundred thousand frontline workers will participate in this campaign.
“Elimination of polio is a shared responsibility. Therefore, the administration, civil society members, and our frontline workers must work together to save children.
It is advised to the health department to make sure to share the list of the areas that are infected by the poliovirus. After that, it is the responsibility of the administration to ensure cleanliness and a proper sewage system. Murad Ali Shah gave strict instructions to the staff that no parent is allowed to refuse the vaccine to his/her children.
The Chief Minister directed IG Police to provide 3,833 policemen for security. The orders to provide security in rural areas have also been given. The important figures who attended the meeting included the Mayor of Karachi, the Home Secretary, the IG Police, the Commissioner of Karachi, and the Secretary Of School Education.
