Wang Yi the foreign minister of China has warned his opposite member in US Antony Blinken against stepping on China’s “red lines”, as the two of them met in Beijing.
Mr Wang begins the meeting by admitting that the relations between China and America are starting to get steady. He asked whether they should continue to be in peaceful relations or return to the disorder of the past.
This was Mr Blinken’s second visit to China in less than a year, will conclude his trip with a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This visit is an attempt to stabilize the relations as there was great tension between the two countries last year. The uneasiness was due to China’s claim over Taiwan and the Sea of South China.
Ties were further damaged by an argument over a spy balloon. A few days ago United States legislated that TikTok owned by China either be sold or banned in the US. Mr Wang also warned that both countries could either work together or engage in a conflict. He further added that negative factors are impacting the US-China relationship, and our fundamental interests are facing problems.
Mr Blinken seems to be more cautious in making remarks to Mr Wang in front of the journalists. He said both countries are responsible for active diplomacy.
The military aid to Taiwan by Washington was highly criticized by China.
During a Phone call, US President Joe Biden and Mr Xi discussed about their cooperation on how to combat climate change and deal with narcotics.
However, they clashed over the Americas’ support for Taiwan and trade restrictions on technology.
